Answer:
The practice of making New Year’s resolutions goes back over 3,000 years to the ancient Babylonians. There is just something about the start of a new year that gives us the feeling of a fresh start and a new beginning. In reality, there is no difference between December 31 and January 1. Nothing mystical occurs at midnight on December 31. The Bible does not speak for or against the concept of New Year’s resolutions. However, if a Christian determines to make a New Year’s resolution, what kind of resolution should he or she make?

Common New Year’s resolutions are commitments to quit smoking, to stop drinking, to manage money more wisely, and to spend more time with family. By far, the most common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight, in conjunction with exercising more and eating more healthily. These are all good goals to set. However, 1 Timothy 4:8 instructs us to keep exercise in perspective: “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” The vast majority of New Year’s resolutions, even among Christians, are in relation to physical things. This should not be.

Many Christians make New Year’s resolutions to pray more, to read the Bible every day, and to attend church more regularly. These are fantastic goals. However, these New Year’s resolutions fail just as often as the non-spiritual resolutions, because there is no power in a New Year’s resolution. Resolving to start or stop doing a certain activity has no value unless you have the proper motivation for stopping or starting that activity. For example, why do you want to read the Bible every day? Is it to honor God and grow spiritually, or is it because you have just heard that it is a good thing to do? Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to honor God with your body, or is it for vanity, to honor yourself?

Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” John 15:5 declares, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” If God is the center of your New Year’s resolution, it has chance for success, depending on your commitment to it. If it is God’s will for something to be fulfilled, He will enable you to fulfill it. If a resolution is not God honoring and/or is not in agreement in God’s Word, we will not receive God’s help in fulfilling the resolution.

So, what sort of New Year’s resolution should a Christian make? Here are some suggestions: (1) pray to the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5) in regards to what resolutions, if any, He would have you make; (2) pray for wisdom as to how to fulfill the goals God gives you; (3) rely on God’s strength to help you; (4) find an accountability partner who will help you and encourage you; (5) don’t become discouraged with occasional failures; instead, allow them to motivate you further; (6) don’t become proud or vain, but give God the glory. Psalm 37:5-6 says, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

“Did the Antelope evolve into the Giraffe?”
  According to Darwinian evolution, the necessities of the environment, random mutation and natural selection working together caused the antelope to grow a longer neck and become a giraffe.  OK, then what does communication theory say about that hypothesis? 

Natural Selection is perfectly valid and has been proven time and time again.   But most people will be very surprised to discover that no one has ever actually demonstrated that random mutation can create new information.  Information theory shows us why this is so: In communication systems, Random Mutation is exactly the same as noise, and noise always destroys the signal, never enhances it.  
In communication systems this is called information entropy, and the formula for information entropy is exactly the same as thermodynamic entropy.  Once lost, the information can never be recovered, much less enhanced.  Thus we can be 100% certain that random mutation is not the source of biodiversity.  A tool is provided, www.RandomMutation.com, that allows you to experiment and see for yourself that random mutation always destroys information, never enhances it. 

This observation is also confirmed biologically by Theodosius Dobzhansky’s fruit fly radiation experiments, Goldschmidt’s gypsy moth experiments, and others.  Decades of research were conducted in the early 20 th century, bombarding fruit flies and moths with radiation in hope of mutating their DNA and producing improved creatures.  These experiments were a total failure – there were no observed improvements – only weak, sickly, deformed fruit flies.  Giraffes may have evolved from antelopes – I never said that couldn’t happen, and I remain open to the possibility that it did. But it certainly wasn’t because of Random Mutation! 

We have proof that life on planet earth was designed by a mind – and that if life did evolve, the capacity to evolve had to be designed in.   The word “Evolution” in the English language always refers to an intelligent process (in business, society, technology etc.) and the only usage in which it allegedly doesn’t is naturalistic Darwinian evolution.  But communication theory shows us that Evolution by Random Process is a hypothesis without proof. 

Finally this presentation concludes with a brief observation: There is an interesting correspondence between Judeo-Christian theology and modern information theory, the statement words and language are the essence of creation: “And God said… In the beginning was the WORD;” that the worlds were
spoken into existence.

Most arguments about evolution and intelligent design offer only anecdotal evidence and are inherently incapable of actually proving anything.  We must get better evidence in order to get to the bottom of this!  Fortunately, the science of modern communications easily provides us with the tools we need to get answers.  Although the details are complex, the concepts are easily grasped by anyone with a high school education.

Patterns occur naturally – no help required from a ‘designer’. Many patterns occur in nature without the help of a designer – snowflakes, tornados, hurricanes, sand dunes, stalactites, rivers and ocean waves.  These patterns are the natural result of what scientists categorize as chaos and fractals.   These things are well-understood and we experience them every day.  

Codes, however, do not occur without a designer.
Examples of symbolic codes include music, blueprints, languages like English and Chinese, computer programs, and yes, DNA.  The essential distinction is the difference between a pattern and a code.   Chaos can produce patterns, but it has never been shown to produce codes or symbols.  Codes and symbols store information, which is not a property of matter and energy alone.  Information itself is a separate entity on par with matter and energy. 

Proof that DNA was designed by a mind:   
(1) DNA is not merely a molecule with a pattern;
it is a code, a language, and an information storage mechanism.   
(2) All codes we know the origin of are created by a conscious mind.  
(3) Therefore DNA was designed by a mind, and language and information are proof of the action of a Super-intelligence. 

We can explore five possible conclusions:
1) Humans designed DNA
2)  Aliens designed DNA
3) DNA occurred randomly and spontaneously
4) There must be some undiscovered law of physics that creates information
5) DNA was Designed by a Super-intelligence, i.e. God.
(1) requires time travel or infinite generations of humans.  (2) could well be true but only pushes the question back in time.  (3) may be a remote possibility, but it’s not a scientific explanation in that it doesn’t refer to a systematic, repeatable process. It’s nothing more than an appeal to luck .  (4) could be true but no one can form a testable hypothesis until someone observes a naturally occurring code.  So the only systematic explanation that remains is (5) a theological one.

To the extent that scientific reasoning can prove anything, DNA is proof of a designer.

I’m depressed. I can’t get excited about the holidays.

The malls are packed, the neighborhoods lit up, and your friends are making holiday plans. You want to join them, but you can’t snap out of it. Tinsel and trinkets just don’t fill the void.

But God says you are never alone. He cares about you. He knows your name and understands what you’re going through. He can bear your heartache and longs to walk beside you if you’ll have Him. He’s your friend, your confidant and a great listener.

Don’t let Christmas slip by feeling lonely and discouraged. Replace the weight of depression with the freeing hope that only God can offer.

What’s the meaning of Christmas?

There’s more to Christmas than candy canes, great bargains and meeting Santa. Christmas celebrates Christ’s birth.

God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to be born on earth and die on a cross. His sacrifice paid for our sins so that whoever believes in Him can have eternal life. The gifts we give at Christmas remind us of God’s gift and express our own love.

It’s OK to get excited about parties and new toys, but don’t lose the real meaning in all the frenzy. Without Christ, there would be no Christmas. Knowing Him can fulfill your life all year long.

Question: "What is the true meaning of Christmas?"

Answer:
The true meaning of Christmas is love. John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love.

The real Christmas story is the story of God's becoming a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why did God do such a thing? Because He loves us! Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! Why does God love us so much? Because He is love itself (1 John 4:8). Why do we celebrate Christmas each year? Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each other gifts, worshipping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate.

The true meaning of Christmas is love. God loved His own and provided a way—the only Way—for us to spend eternity with Him. He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. "But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

I get so stressed at Christmas.

You’re bombarded with words like “joy,” “merry” and “bright.” But last-minute shopping and holiday preparations are more of a hassle than a delight.

God says to call on Him, to cast your worries on Him and He will give you rest. How? He provided His Son, Jesus Christ, so that we can have a direct, personal relationship with Him. When we put Christ at the center of our lives, we can trust Him to help us through any trial that comes along.

A Christmas Opportunity (Ideas from My Hope with Billy Graham)

December is in full swing! You are most likely seeing Christmas decorations, lights, nativities, shopping crowds, and lots of red and green. We invite you to take a break, grab an eggnog or cup of hot chocolate, and sit back for a moment and BREATHE!

We invite you to look around and identify a neighbor with no family nearby, someone going through hardship financially or emotionally, and someone who doesn’t have the same HOPE that you have in Jesus.

Make a list and begin praying for each of these people. Pray that the Lord will provide the perfect opportunity for you to reach out to them and share His love with them during this Christmas season. Encourage your church to do the same.

If you find yourself on the hesitant side and in need of relationship building ideas, consider these opportunities:

    • Pay a visit with baked goods and your Christmas card … perhaps even an invitation to your church’s Christmas musical or service/program.

    • Take your family caroling to the home of the elderly on your list.

    • Ladies, host a cookie or ornament exchange specifically with the women on your list to break the ice and get acquainted.

    • Have a “Happy Birthday, Jesus!” party for the families on your list as an interactive opportunity for the children.

    • Extend an invitation to your family Christmas party or even dinner with your family on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
As you build relationships this Christmas season, we hope you’ll get your church and friends involved in My Hope with Billy Graham so that, together, we can celebrate the birth of our Savior by spreading His love throughout our communities! JOY to the world! The Lord has come!

2012: The year the world ends? (December 21st?)

Does the Mayan calendar prove that the world will end this year? Will there be a third world war as Nostradamus predicted?

The Bible says this about the end times: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven” (Mark 13:32). But there’s one thing we do know – that whether the world ends tomorrow or a million years from now, your body will die someday. Your soul, on the other hand, will live forever. Will you spend eternity with God, or in a constant state of suffering and anguish?

God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins so we can live forever in God’s presence. All you have to do is accept God’s free gift of salvation. Don’t live in fear about tomorrow; turn to Him today and be assured of eternity in heaven.




Question: "What is the year 2012 Mayan prophecy?"

Answer:
The ancient Mayans, in their “Long Count” calendar, had December 21, 2012, as the end of the calendar. This “end” of the Mayan calendar leads to many different interpretations. Some see it as nothing more than a reset, the beginning of a new cycle. Others see it as the date for the end of the world (or at least some type of universal catastrophe). So, what is the Mayan Long Count calendar, and does it have any relation to the end of the world?

The Mayans developed their own calendar (The Long Count) ca. 355 B.C. They were able to use their observations and mathematical prowess to calculate the future movements of stars across the sky. The result was that the Mayans discovered the effect of the earth’s wobbling as it spins on its axis. This wobbling rotation causes the stars’ movements to drift gradually in the sky (an effect called “precession”) in a 5,125-year cycle. The Mayans also discovered that once every cycle the dark band at the center of the Milky Way (called the “Galactic Equator”) intersects the Elliptical (the plane of the sun’s movement across the sky).

During the year of the intersection, the sun reaches its solstice (a brief moment when the sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observer) on December 21 for the Northern Hemisphere and June 21 for the Southern Hemisphere. At that time, the solstice occurs at the same moment of the conjunction of the Galactic Equator with the Milky Way. The year this occurs (in relation to our Gregorian calendar) is A.D. 2012, and happened last on August 11, 3114 B.C. With Mayan mythology teaching that the sun is a god and the Milky Way is the gateway to life and death, the Mayans concluded that this intersection in the past must have been the moment of creation. Mayan hieroglyphs seem to indicate that they believed the next intersection (in 2012) would be some sort of end and a new beginning of a cycle.

All the so-called “Mayan prophecies of 2012” are nothing more than wildly speculative extrapolations, based on the yet-uncertain interpretations by scholars of Mayan hieroglyphs. The truth is that, apart from the astrological convergence, there is little indication that the Mayans prophesied anything specific regarding the events in their distant future. The Mayans were not prophets; they were not even able to predict their own cultural extinction. They were great mathematicians and accomplished sky watchers, but they were also a brutally violent tribal people with a primitive understanding of natural phenomena, subscribing to archaic beliefs and the barbaric practices of blood-letting and human sacrifice. They believed, for example, that the blood of human sacrifices powered the sun and gave it life.

There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that would present December 21, 2012, as the end of the world. The Bible nowhere presents the astronomical phenomena the Mayans pointed to as a sign of the end times. It would seem inconsistent of God to allow the Mayans to discover such an amazing truth while keeping the many Old Testament prophets ignorant of the timing of the events. In summary, there is absolutely no biblical evidence that the 2012 Mayan prophecy should be considered a reliable prediction of doomsday.

Also included in the ancient Mayan prediction that December 21, 2012, would be the end of the world are the following theories: our sun is a god; the sun is powered by the blood of human sacrifice; the creation moment occurred at 3114 B.C. (despite all evidence that it happened much earlier); and the visual alignment of stars has some significance for everyday human life. Like every other false religion, the Mayan religion sought to elevate the creation instead of the Creator Himself. The Bible tells us about such false worshipers: “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:25), and “since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). To accept the Mayan 2012 prophecy is also to deny the clear biblical teaching about the end of the world. Jesus told us, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Mark 13:32).

First of all, Jesus didn’t come to save us from the things of this world but to save us from the wages our own sin--death (Romans 6:23). Secondly, each person is equipped by God with a conscience that instinctively knows right and wrong.
Also James 1:14-15 says “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” Therefore those things that drag us away from God and toward sin are not outside of us but inside of us.
And 1 Corinthians 6:12 says “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” So as you go through life remember to listen to your God given conscience and let the Bible be your authority. Question: "Should a Christian watch television (TV)?"
Answer: Many Christians struggle with the issue of whether or not to watch TV and, if we do watch, how much TV should we watch? Television, like many other diversions we have in today's society, has the ability to do both great good and great harm.  However, many people have become mindlessly addicted to whatever show may be on, taking them away from family, friends and time with God. The impact of television in our lives comes in what we do with it. We can let it control us, or we can use it as the tool it was meant to be. Question: "Should a Christian go to movies?
Answer: The danger lies in (1) how what we are watching affects our heart and (2) how it affects others. As members of the body of Christ, we are to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14) and a holy example of what God has done in our lives (1 Peter 2:11-12). If we are seen by others going into an “R”-rated movie, it could send the wrong message to them—that we enjoy and/or condone illicit sex and violence. That is not conducive to being a light in a dark world. So, how do we know for sure whether what we are watching is beneficial? When we become followers of Christ, we are given His Holy Spirit to live in us (Acts 2:38; 2 Timothy 1:14). Jesus tells us that this Spirit will guide us in all truth (John 16:13). One way God's Spirit guides us is by our conscience (Romans 1:12; 9:1). If your conscience is telling you that what you are watching is wrong, it probably is. Question: "Should a Christian listen to secular music?"
Answer: Many Christians struggle with this question. Many secular musicians are immensely talented. Secular music can be very entertaining. There are many secular songs that have catchy melodies, thoughtful insights, and positive messages. The content of the lyrics must be considered. While not specifically speaking of music, Philippians 4:8 is an excellent guide for musical lyrics: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Obviously, the best kind of music is that which praises and glorifies God. It is the lyrics that determine whether a song is “acceptable” for a Christian to listen to. Answer: The answer to these questions should be determined by whether we can honestly ask God to bless and use our actions for His own good purposes. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Christians who choose to participate in social networking should be aware of the negative aspects of social networking. When we rely on social media sites primarily to promote ourselves or draw attention to ourselves, it is time to take a step back. Answer: When God shows us that a specific activity is controlling our lives, we should break away from it for a time. This “fast” could be from food, movies, TV, music, video games, anything that distracts our attention from knowing and loving God and serving His people. While some of these things may not be bad in and of themselves, they become idols if they distract us from our first love (Colossians 3:5; Revelation 2:4). We are to pursue praiseworthy activities, not simply permissible ones. He leads us to passionately follow Him above all else. Prepare for eternity. Thank you for taking the time to do something that is so important… learning how to correctly read and apply the Bible. Why use an Inductive method? Because deductive reasoning is like a bad medical doctor who gives you an application without finding the cause of the issue. Inductive reasoning is like a good doctor who diagnosis the issue in order to find the correct application. When you are done with learning this Bible study method, you will read the Word and be amazed by its contents. The Bible will come alive for you and you will experience a never ending supply of encouragement and a better understanding of the Scriptures.

     Method to Study the Bible

Observation - What is being said?
Read the scripture being studied several times carefully, and each time reread looking for something specific. (This may be where you spend most of your time preparing for a Bible study but you will gain a deeper understanding of the Word)
1 - Who is involved?
2 - What are they doing?
3 - Where are they? Where are they going? (Take a look at a historical map for help)
4 - When did this happen, what happened before this, what will happen after this?
5 - Why is this happening, what happened to lead up to this event?
6 - Had this been foretold?

Interpretation - What is being meant?
Let the Bible be Interpreted by the Bible. Carefully consider the context of the verses, paragraph, chapter and book.
(Just like good vision is 20/20, we can discover the actual meaning of the scripture by reading 20 verses prior and after)
1 - What was the author trying to say to his original readers, and how would they have understood this section?
2 - What are the differences between the biblical audience and us? Both Physical and Spiritual.
3 - Why is this here, what is the doctrine or theological significance of the text? Contrast the Gospel and Religion.
4 - Why were the words put together as they have been? Is there a pattern or relationship in the use of grammar?
5 - Explore the meaning of the words because they change over time. What does the Hebrew or Greek words mean?  

Correlation - Where else is it being said and / or explained? (Does a correlating passage give us an Illustration?)
Allow the Bible interpret every part of the Bible. (Refer to parallel Bible Scriptures that come to memory, use a Concordance, or the cross-reference system in your Bible.  You don’t need to develop the correlation but use it as an example or illustration.)
1 - What are some other Scriptures that are within the same topic of the major theme or point of this scripture?
2 - Is there anything that references the cross of Jesus, or that points us to Jesus as a cross reference?
3 - If this had been foretold, are there any other Scriptures that also point to this same event?
4 - If this scripture is in the Old Testament are there any New Testament Scriptures that correct my understanding?
5 - If there is another mention of a main word in this scripture, what does the first mention of the word deal with?

Application - What will I do about what is being said? How can I apply this to my life?
Make the scripture very personal and see how what you have learned in the above steps can apply to your life. (Keep in mind that God’s Word is alive and active, it exposes our innermost thoughts and desires, so you can apply it to your life)
1 - What does this scripture say about Jesus?
2 - What does this passage say about Gods love?
3 - Is there a sin here for me to avoid?
4 - Is there a failure from which I can learn?
5 - Is there a command for me to obey?
6 - Is there a good example for me to follow?
7 - Is there a promise I can call my own (Does God promise with ‘I will’ or ‘I shall’?)
8 - Is there a blessing I can enjoy?
9 - Is there something here I want to thank God for?
10 - Is there a truth in this scripture that has greatly affected me?

Remember to soak your time in prayer as you spend time in God’s Word. Also opening and closing in prayer is an excellent way to start and end a Bible Study. Christmas Flash Mob - This is one way to get the Gospel out

Journey of Faith Church surprised a crowd of unsuspecting Christmas shoppers at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach by spontaneously erupting in song.



Flash mobs are becoming more popular, so why not share real meaning of "Christmas" by getting permission to use a public space to sing in a choir about Jesus?
